A new literary magazine for poetry, short fiction, and essays — founded and edited by Eboni Ferguson, author of Some Real Sugar Honey Ice Tea: A Philly Jawn and Urban Chronicles of the Ghetto.
The Inaugural Writing Contest
Issue 1 will be built from a contest. One $500 Grand Prize winner, plus up to nine finalists, published in our first issue — Spring 2027.
Entries open January 2, 2027 and close February 27, 2027. Three categories: poetry, short fiction, and personal essay / article. Judging is fully blind — no names on the work, ever. Just the writing.
Why “Sun Hit”?
“Sun hit” comes from the editor’s mother, Marilyn, and the iced tea she used to make. She would set the tea outside and let the sun do the work — “sit it out in the sun and let the sun hit it.” That tea, and that sun, named a film and a book: Some Real Sugar Honey Ice Tea. Now it names a home for other writers — a place where good work gets set out in the light.
Rooted in Philadelphia, Open to the World
Sun Hit Review has a Philly heart and an open door. Every race, every face, every place — if you wrote it, we want to read it.
